Chicago Tribune Misleading Public on Obama vs. Bush Bus Tour? rebelpundit August 17, 2011 News 10 Comments Today this article titled “GOP attacks Obama bus, but Bush did same” from the Chicago Tribune equates President Bush’s 2004 Campaign Bus tour as the equivalent to Barack Obama’s current Darth Vader Bus tour (<— H/T Dana Loesch), because Bush’s bus was supposedly purchased from the same Canadian manufacturer in an effort to point out apparent hypocrisy by Reince Priebus and Pat Brady. From the Tribune: “As President Barack Obama traveled to the first of two “town hall” stops in western Illinois today, top national and state Republicans criticized his campaign-style visit and criticized his use of a taxpayer-funded Canadian-manufactured bus as part of a jobs tour.” The author sites no evidence that the Bush bus was purchased or leased from the same manufacturer and also fails to mention who paid for President Bush’s bus. Being an official campaign bus, it’s pretty hard to imagine the taxpayers footed the bill. This would be a pretty significant difference to President Obama’s taxpayer funded Canadian made bus. Again from the Trib: “But no mention was made by Republican National Chairman Reince Priebus or Illinois GOP Chairman Pat Brady that a re-election seeking President George W. Bush used a bus from the same manufacturer, Quebec-based Prevost, for a spring 2004 “Yes, America Can” campaign tour through the Midwest.” 10 Responses TeflonPalin August 17, 2011 What the??? This isn’t “Obama’s Bus”. This is a Secret Service bus, one of two purchased for BOTH parties to use. Would you rather have tax payer money thrown away on leased buses, as has been the case over the past decades? And you provide no proof that Bush’s bus WASN’T built in Canada or that Bush’s bus (and we can really call it ‘Bush’s bus’) WASN’T payed for by tax payers. You are just as misleading….WOW! Reply rebelpundit August 17, 2011 I didn’t make any of the claims you are accusing me of and if Bush’s campaign bus was paid for by the taxpayers, that would be a crime. Come on… Reply Texancowboy August 17, 2011 rebelpundit – you make no claims – but you imply – yet offer no evidence to support your statement. rebelpundit August 17, 2011 Why am I the one that needs to prove anything? The Tribune is the one making claims without evidence. Chuck August 18, 2011 No actually, I’d rather obama’s campaign buy or lease the buses if they are going to be used for his campaign “just like Bush’s campaign did” in 2004!
