Is there a sound?

A question generally attributed to philosopher George Berkeley appeared in a June 1883 copy of the magazine The Chautauquan.

The question was, “If a tree were to fall on an island where there were no human beings would there be any sound?”

White House advisor Valerie Jarrett receives a full Secret Service detail but Libyan Ambassador Stevens received no security detail. Did the administration consider the danger to Jarrett from drug gangs in Chicago or right-wing kooks greater than the danger to our Ambassador from Islamic terrorists?

A defense inspector general’s report found that a 2009 congressional authorized program to set up voter assistance offices weren’t set up because of resistance from the Department of Defense.
