Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced plans today for a new selective enrollment school. Barack Obama College Preparatory High School will open in 2017 with an inaugural 300-student freshmen class. The school will eventually hold 1200 students from across the city, according to the Emanuel’s press release. “We must seize every opportunity to ensure our students receive a world-class, 21st century education and that they are able to take advantage of the academic opportunities they have earned,” said Mayor Emanuel. “Year after year, too many of our students who have put in years of hard work are turned away because as a city we haven’t had the capacity to meet their capability and this important investment will help us fix that.” The school will be funded through $60 million of Tax Increment Financing (TIF). With President Obama still in office for what appears to be 2 more scandal plagued years, Emanuel might be keeping his fingers crossed that he didn’t name a school after the president too soon. Residents took to the Mayor’s Facebook page to blast the plan: Rahm Obama School Facebook The Mayor’s press conference can be viewed here. Follow @RebelPundit on Twitter.
