SPRINGFIELD — Republicans in Illinois are no different than their counterparts across the nation: They are hoping the political winds in a number of key legislative races carry them back to power.

In the Illinois House, Republicans are hoping to pick up 12 seats in order to wrest control of the chamber from longtime House Speaker Michael Madigan.

Republicans face a steep climb in the Senate, too, but are convinced they’ll cut into the majority held by Democrats because of the horrific condition of the state budget and dissatisfaction with incumbents in general.
