Durbin, Schumer & Friends Make Push to Amend Constitution rebelpundit November 9, 2011 Rebel Pundit 4 Comments This morning senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) sent out an email request for petition signatures to amend the United States Constitution. The push is to reverse the Supreme Court’s decision in Citizens United vs. FEC, and limit corporations from making political contributions. “We must put the American people back in charge of our democracy. If the Supreme Court refuses to allow Congress and individual states to regulate the role of money in our elections, we must amend the Constitution to change that —and together, we are beginning the amendment process this month.” “These historic times call for extraordinary measures to ensure our government remains of the people, by the people, and for the people — not just powerful interests with the deepest pockets.” 4 Responses Daneil November 9, 2011 Funny, you know if these guys want to change it they have found a loophole that will benefit only them. Reply Sean November 9, 2011 Funny, back in 2008 that would have really hurt the Democrats. Now that big businesses have told Obama and the democrats to go pound sand, they want to limit the corporate contributions. In the end, I have no problem with this, as long as they make the same requirement for Unions. Reply Janice Dong November 16, 2011 Where is the actual proposed amendment to read before signing any petition? Reply Ralph November 23, 2011 If there are loopholes it would work for both sides. I’d like to see it done and written in an effective and tight manner. Sitting and doing nothing so the status quo remains is foolish.
