Jeremy,

Two years ago today, Wall Street and Tea Partiers across the nation celebrated as Scott Brown declared victory in a special election to replace my friend, the late Ted Kennedy, in the Senate.

During his nearly fifty years in the Senate, Ted was one of the fiercest advocates for social and economic equality that our country has ever known. And now, we not only have an opportunity to take this seat back from the Tea Party (and Wall Street!), but to elect someone who would be a top-notch legislator in the mold of Ted Kennedy: Elizabeth Warren.

Elizabeth is one of the country’s most courageous and outspoken advocates for middle-class Americans, and I can honestly say that we need Elizabeth Warren in the U.S. Senate.

Today, as Scott Brown celebrates the two-year anniversary of his surprise special election victory, Elizabeth and her supporters are fighting back by launching a “money bomb” — a massive, one-day fundraising drive coordinated with friends and allies around the country — to show the power of her grassroots support. And they need our help.

Make a contribution of $5 — or whatever you can afford — to today’s Elizabeth Warren Money Bomb, so that we make as big an impact as possible.

Elizabeth, who has never before sought political office, is someone who can and will get things done.

I know that firsthand, because I worked closely with her to lay the groundwork for the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the new, independent financial watchdog dedicated to ensuring that financial products like mortgages and credit cards work for ordinary Americans.

While Elizabeth’s very public record of speaking out against the excesses and abuses of the big banks and financial firms has earned her praise and admiration from those fighting for the middle class, it has also earned her some powerful opponents, like Karl Rove, the Chamber of Commerce, and countless Wall Street lobbyists.

Those opponents are already starting to spend their nearly unlimited funds to smear and distort Elizabeth’s strong record, because they’re absolutely terrified of what a “Senator Warren” would mean.

If you’re like me and want to see a Washington that’s no longer rigged for the special interests at the expense of hardworking Americans, then it’s crucial to make an impact with today’s money bomb, and help narrow the fundraising gap in this Senate race.

Make a contribution of $5 or more to Elizabeth Warren’s money bomb now, and help put Scott Brown, Karl Rove, and Wall Street on notice!

Thank you for your help — I’m excited to see the results!

Sincerely,

Dick Durbin
U.S. Senator
