Continuing Coverage: #OccupyChicago Leaders Make Demands To Rahm rebelpundit October 27, 2011 Rebel Pundit 9 Comments The following video features the demands made by Occupy Chicago activists, Andy Thayer and Joe Iosbaker, during the invasion they led into City Hall yesterday. The march of the moochers stormed the building and marched clockwise in the lobby, rather than their usual counter-clockwise marching. The angry mob then proceeded to the 5th floor, and continued their protest at the doors to Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s office. Thayer’s demands included; being granted permits to protest the G-8 and NATO Summit being held in Chicago this coming May as well as dropping the charges against fellow “occupiers,” and he was followed by Iosbaker–with statements on an SEIU resolution to support their demands, and comments on his current investigation by the FBI. Iosbaker also noted that they were notified that Northwestern University Law School has changed their graduation so that the students will not be downtown during the G-8 and NATO protests next may. They were reportedly warned by the FBI that it would be too dangerous. It’s going to be effing cold in Chicago in two weeks. It’s going to be even more effing cold in December and January. Should be interesting to see who’s camping out. Reply Tom22ndState October 28, 2011 Do these two nobodies know who they’re dealing with? He has chunks of guys like this in his stool (ht Phil Hartman) Lucky for them Mr Mayor has a vested interest in keeping the chaos simmering for the moment. I agree with others; the OWS (bowel) movement is only a trial-run for the tumult these thugs plan to foment next Spring/Summer! Reply David October 28, 2011 “Thayer’s demands included; being granted permits to protest the G-8 and NATO Summit …” Wait. I thought everyone had a right to peacefully assemble. Why are they demanding a permit, couldn’t they just fill out an application? Or was their application denied? If they don’t get one, will they protest anyway? By going to The Man for a permit, they are acknowledging that The Man has all the power and the people have none. This was merely a publicity stunt. Reply cirby October 28, 2011 It’s pretty obvious what Rahm said in reply. It’s also pretty obvious why his response won’t be quoted on the evening news. Reply Marty October 28, 2011 Their first amendment right is to peacably assemble and petition the government for redress of their grievances. They have the right to speak, which has been liberally interpreted to include expressing themselves in ways that go beyond literal speaking, such as carrying signs. They do not have a right to disrupt others, except to the minimum extent necessary in order to carry out the above. They very specifically do not have a right to disrupt the G-8 and NATO meetings, or the daily activities of anyone else. Since teh G-8 and NATO are not their government it is far from clear they ahve any right to be physically present, as tehy can speak and carry signs froma considerable distance, and they ahve no right to expect teh G-8 or NATO to accept their petition for redress of grievances. This whole thing has been allowed to go on way too long, the government should insist that after a month it is time for them to present their petition of grievances, state the redress they seek, and stand down. Reply mmack October 28, 2011 #OccupyChicago Leaders Make Demands To Rahm Mayor Emmanuel replied to the demands by shouting “F@ck you, hippes!”, flashing his middle fingers at them, and head-butting Thayer and Iosbacker.
