Everybody Protests Obama Fundraiser: Right, Left and In Between

0
June 2, 2013

Protesters from all sides of the political spectrum protested President Obama on Wednesday evening outside a fundraiser he attended for the DCCC in Chicago.

Not only is the president wildly unpopular with the right, he also seems to be losing his flare with the radical left. However, no one seems to be calling the left-wing protesters racists like the Tea Party was for protesting the president early in his first term.

At Wednesday’s protests outside the Chicago Hilton, pro-life groups lined Michigan Ave. with giant images of aborted children, standing alongside protesters from the Sierra Club against the Keystone Pipeline, illegal aliens calling for open borders, anarchists against the police state, communists against freedom, independent veterans who are fed up with the Obama regime, and even a group of Native Americans singing and chanting.

I spoke with some of the nearly 200 protesters on hand, although most that I attempted to interview expressed fear of speaking with “Breitbart.” Those not afraid of Breitbart News were instructed by organizers and random protesters not to speak with this reporter, despite the opportunity to get their message out. One protester warned another, “The man is dangerous,” while encouraging her not to be interviewed.

Of the protesters willing to speak on camera despite the dire warnings from their brethren said that the anti-Keystone Pipeline activists think “we shouldn’t use any oil at all,” and “it would be better if oil cost Americans more money.”

A veteran also went on camera to say he was disgusted that the president would come to Chicago “one week after 50 schools were closed and ask for money.” He emphasized, “[Obama] should be raising money for the children,” and the veterans, rather than fundraising for himself and the Democrats.

Illegal alien rights protesters were arrested in the morning prior to the president’s arrival after linking arms through PVC piping before laying down and stopping traffic in the middle of Michigan Ave.

According to the Huffington Post, the Chicago Police used small electric saws to remove the piping and separate the protesters arms before arresting a dozen of them.

The Nation’s Dead: This Shall Be Liberty’s Home Forever

1
May 27, 2013

Regrettably, I only recognized the significance of Memorial Day a few years ago. Somewhere between that time and my childhood, I grew accustomed to the idea, that while watching images of Memorial Day services on TV, it was really the beginning of summer, barbecues and a day off from school, and later, work.

But amidst the current struggles in the eternal battle for freedom and liberty, I gained a new admiration and respect for those who have fought and died for this country, and I began to feel compelled to remember our fallen heroes, who died in the field of honor.

Rev. Dr. Frank Jewell’s historic sermon delivered at an 1875 Memorial Day celebration in California, informs us that all of history’s great nations have held up their heroes in one way or another, so that future generations may produce new heroes to fill their shoes. But what is unique to America about the remembrance of our heroes is that, as Jewell says, “it springs not from a monarch’s edict, but from millions of grateful, loyal hearts.”

Jewell describes how Americans began celebrating Memorial Day after the Civil War:

In 1864, thousands of our sons and brothers who had worn the blue were sleeping in soldiers’ graves all through the Southern States, and those who would could not and those who would not visit them or do them honor.  Amid the beauties of the vernal bloom, the women of the South went forth to strew flowers on the graves of their slain.

Immediately those whose dusky brows had been baptized with the sparkling dews of Freedom, and knowing to whom they owed their emancipation, anxious to recognize their obligations to the vicarious sufferings, toil and death of those who slept in the unhonored graves, and with a love and devotion as lofty as ever thrilled a human heart went forth to field and wood, and gathered the wild flowers in their beauty.  Under the cover of darkness, only relieved by the twinkling stars, they stole softly and silently to the slighted graves of our fallen heroes; and bedewing them with tears and breathing benedictions over them, reverently and tenderly laid thereon their humble floral offerings.

Beautiful and fitting initiation of a custom which is now fully enshrined in the hearts of us all, and shall be continued by our children’s children to the end of time.  As beautiful and touching and well-nigh as religiously sacred as the offerings of the women who came to the sepulcher, very early in the morning, while it was yet dark, for fear of the Jews, bringing spices with which to anoint the body of their Lord.  Each recognized in the one whose grave they blessed; a Savior, from degrading chains, to a heritage of manhood.  But what is it that we celebrate, and why do we feel called upon to continue this beautiful and touching observance?  Like those who originated the custom, we feel that we are debtors to those who, living or dead, became a part of that great holocaust of blood, which stained so many fields of our land, and made so many decks slippery with human gore.

Jewell goes on to contrast the Civil War to our other wars and America to other great nations and points out, that it was the American Civil War, which settled “the last great conflict for freedom, and that was deserving of such memorialization:

But we are not to forget that it is not alone the personal heroism manifested, that justifies these memorial demonstrations.  It was not a mere match of prowess or display of personal courage.  It was not a mere exhibition of matchless endurance and patient suffering for championship.  It was not a mere gladiatorial combat for the entertainment and admiration of the on-looking Nations.  It was an issue between right and wrong; between political truth and heresy; between preservation and destruction.  It was a conflict for the life of our nationality, “the green graves of our sires, God and our native land.”  In vain all the struggles of the past; in vain all the sufferings of the heroes of the Mayflower; in vain the struggles of our Revolutionary sires; in vain the blood that crimsoned Bunker Hill and Lexington, Monmouth and Yorktown, had not America’s sons shown themselves worthy custodians of freedom’s lofty heritage.

It was the last great conflict for freedom, the point of history upon which hung the hopes of freedom’s lovers among all nations.  It was the culmination of a conflict of a thousand years.

It was for this Americans became compelled to honor our fallen heroes. Not those who served, but those proclaimed “dead upon the field of honor.”

Jewell declared to the “comrades of the Grand Army of the Republic,” at the Memorial Day celebration:

To the life-long enjoyment of the peaceful heritage your valor helped to win – to our sanctuaries, our homes, our hearts, we receive and welcome you.  Never was the Angel that records the deeds of true heroes made busier than when your brave hearts and strong hands furnished him employment.  Your bravery challenged and received the homage of the world.  Great interests confided to your hands were not betrayed, and a grateful nation shall continue to pay you honor.  Our children shall be taught to lisp your names with reverence, and our children’s children shall moisten your resting places with their tears.  Ye heroes of many a hard and well-fought battle, we will never, never forget the story of your heroism.  Our youth shall emulate your virtues.  Future generations shall study your record, and transmit to others the story of your sacrifice; and those who, in after years, shall join in the services of the Soldiers’ Memorial Day, inspired by your glorious example as they drop the garland upon your patriot grave, shall lift the hand to Heaven and say, “THIS SHALL BE LIBERTY’S HOME FOREVER.”

Plea: Incompetence

Although it has been shown no confusion existed among on-site State Department or Intelligence personnel about the source of the Benghazi attack last year, it took the Obama Administration weeks to sort out the truth while in the meantime they laid blame on a video for which there was no evidence.

Well documented requests for more security were not heeded because the need was not substantiated.

Attempts to assist State Department personnel under attack were forbidden because it was unclear whether any rescue could be successful or timely. (Invites one to ponder whether Roosevelt would have withheld troops from Europe under this cautionary protocol).

Plea: Incompetence

According to documents the IRS’s chief counsel and deputy commissioner the IRS knew of the targeting of conservative groups on August 4, 2011. In March 2012 IRS commissioner, Doug Shulman, under oath assured congress that no groups were being targeted. Acting commissioner Steven Miller has made assurances that “in no way” was screening politically motivated. With an inspector general’s report on the IRS due this week, lawsuits pending alleging political targeting by the IRS and continued inquiries in congress about the political activities of the IRS, the Obama Administration was unaware and shocked.

Chicago Teachers Union Gets the Cover of Socialism 2013 Conference Program

0
May 14, 2013

The Socialism 2013 Conference agenda is out! And look who made the cover of the program. Not Che, not Moa, not Lenin, Stalin or Marx. The Chicago Teachers Union!

Socialism 2013 Teachers

Since the early days of the Occupy movement in October 2011, the ties between the radical institutional left and the Chicago Teachers Union (CTU) were becoming very clear. EAG News documented the relationship between the CTU and radical anarchist organizer Lisa Fithian, who trained the teachers in “non-violent direct action,” and more specifically, how to stage and coordinate their arrests with the Chicago Police Department.

In 2012, the CTU began to set the stage for the now infamous Chicago Teachers Strike, by conducting several massive protest actions, shutting down Chicago’s loop on several occasions, under the leadership of their President Karen Lewis and Vice President Jesse Sharkey. I captured Sharkey on film, leading the teachers, in actions that directly emulated those of the Occupy Movement.

For days in the fall of 2012, during the strike, the educators of Chicago’s youth marched side by side with revolutionary Marxist organizations, black bloc anarchists, and open communist organizations. One thing missing through it all, however, was any coverage of these facts in the Chicago media.

In fact, after I informed NBC Chicago’s Charlie Wojciechowski during another CTU protest action, that CTU Vice President Jesse Sharkey participated in the Midwest Marxism Conference at Northwestern University, and asked him if he address the question, “why?” to Mr. Sharkey, Wojciechowski told me, “Breitbart was full of sh*t,” and refused. The conference was loaded with Chicago teachers, and break out sessions featured discussions on the successful collaboration between the CTU and ISO in coordinating the CTU Strike.

A few weeks later, another NBC “reporter” Christian Farr, behaved in similar fashion, when I asked him why he would not cover International Socialist Organization members and organizers right in front of him, playing an organizational roll for the CTU demonstration. Farr snapped at me, “No! I’m not going to cover that! That’s a judgement.” Farr claimed to be “objective” and rejected any reason to cover the facts regarding the involvement of the ISO in the protest, and accused me of being opinionated for stating the fact that there were in deed open socialists running the protest.

Recently, Lisa Fithian was back on the scene, working with the teachers again, coordinating more fake arrests between the CTU and the Chicago Police.

The Chicago Teachers Union presence on the cover the Socialism 2013 program does not mean all Chicago teachers are socialists, and it would be next to impossible to figure how many actually are. However, this, yet again, highlights the close relationship between the CTU and the ISO that is very real. More over, this presents an alarming lack of respect on behalf of the Chicago media, for whom they fail to inform, the Chicago taxpayers and more importantly parents whose children are placed in the daily care of the CTU’s rank and file, that willfully follow these radical organizations.

Pritzker’s Bank Failure: Investors Got Paid, Depositors and Taxpayers Fleeced

1
May 7, 2013

By her own admission in a 2008 Q & A with the New York Times, Secretary of Commerce nominee Penny Pritzker acknowledged as many as 1600 depositors lost $6000 on average–or roughly $10 million overall–due to her family’s Superior Bank failure. The losses were the result of years of subprime lending and overvaluing its residual interests after failing to discount to present values, future cash flows that were subject to credit losses.

According to the U.S. General Accounting Office:

Superior Bank did not properly value the residual interest assets it reported on its financial statements. Since those assets represented payments that were to be received in the future only after credit losses were reimbursed, they needed to be discounted at an appropriate risk adjusted rate, in order to recognize that a promise to pay in the future was worth less than a current payment.

The result was that Superior Bank reported assets, earnings, and capital that were far in excess of their true values…When Superior finally applied the appropriate valuation techniques and related accounting to the residual interests in early 2001, at the urging of the OTS (Office of Thrift Supervision), Superior was forced to take a write off against its capital and became “significantly undercapitalized.”

The Pritzkers purchased Superior Bank (formerly the failed Lyons Savings Bank), with a New York real estate developer, Alvin Dwarman in 1988 from the federal government for a modest $42.5 million and $645 million in tax credits. Penny Pritzker then became Superior Bank’s first chairman before becoming director of its holding company Coast to Coast Financial holdings.

Under Pritzker, the bank’s composite rating had initially improved, and Superior began paying dividends of approximately $200.8 million to its holding companies. Because of Superiors’ improved status, by 1993 it required less oversight from regulators.

In March of that year, Superior “executed its first securitization of subprime mortgage loans and began booking residual interests on its balance,” the GAO report said. An OTS examination in 1994 reported that Superior’s continued investment in the residual interests originated by Superior exposed them to a higher risk, and by 1995 Superior began an even risker subprime auto lending division.

Turn on the Garry Owen and Raise a Glass to Chip

2
May 7, 2013

It wouldn’t surprise me if you had not heard of him. That was on purpose. You got to know him, when he wanted you to. He ran a low profile, behind the scenes, but if there was ever a news tip, or a big story coming down the pipes, he knew it was coming before anyone else. And if you did know Chip Gerdes, you know exactly what I mean.

I first met Chip when he reached out to some grassroots activists in Illinois to work on a project during the 2010 election cycle. The meeting was as mysterious as the profile he kept, late at night, in a bar, and I had no clue who I was waiting around to meet. He showed up in flip-flops, with his backpack, and a skull and crossbones on his hat.

He shared ideas about how to fight the left I had never heard from anyone else. He thought out of the box, and he wanted to win. All he talked about was kicking ass, and how much fun we were going to have doing it.

And we did.

you know ja Chip

Over the months and now years, we became close friends. Chip introduced me to Andrew Breitbart and he gave me my first handheld video camera. If I scored a solid video at a protest or some campaign event, he was the first to know. And nothing was more fun than when we nailed the left together.

Do you remember Ja? It was a classic-lefty freak out caught on camera during a Tea Party in Madison. We picked up Andrew Breitbart last minute at the airport to announce Sarah Palin, and while we were waiting for his speech outside the Capitol, Chip spotted two union loons losing their minds over the mere presence of Palin in their town.

When we cut that video in the “command center,” and I started typing the subtext “gaa gaa gyy” onto the screen, I turned around and Chip was rolling on my floor. Neither of us could stop laughing. I can’t count how many stomachaches we got from the gut-busting laughter that ensued over the next few years at each opportunity we had to humiliate the left.

Chip actually shot that video, although we posted it on Rebelpundit.com, because Chip never wanted credit for anything. He never wanted his name on a story, he didn’t care if he got any recognition. He only wanted to make sure he helped you get it right, and share in the fun behind the scenes.

Chances are, had I never met him that late night in Chicago, I would have never ended up in the scrum with Andrew Breitbart a month later, and I can say, “with certitude,” RebelPundit would not exist today. Although he lurked in the shadows, his network was vast, and he formed a glue in many ways like our friend Andrew, that has helped bind us together.

I know a lot of people feel the same way, and will miss him dearly.

Chip Gerdes suffered a sudden heart attack and passed away early Monday morning. We lost a great patriot far too soon.

So, as we did many times in celebration, turn on The Garry Owen, his favorite battle song, and raise glass to our friend Chip.

May we fight, and win, many more battles in his memory.

Cross Posted at Breitbart.
Update: Congresswoman Ann Wagner (R-MO) paid tribute to Chip on Monday evening on the floor of the United States House of Representatives.

Remembering my friend Chip Gerdes #RTR

0
May 6, 2013

Today I learned that Chip Gerdes, my friend and friend of this blog, passed away.

There are many characters fighting this war to restore freedom and an appreciation for American exceptionalism to our country; but there is no one like Chip.

Chip, who was one of the behind-the-scenes guys who do so much heavy lifting in politics, running campaigns, connecting media with stories, generally getting things done, was, like Andrew, larger than life. In fact it was through Chip that I first met Andrew.

Every time I saw him he would regale me with another inconceivable story from his work. It’s better to skim the surface of these stories — they were often successful and always mischievous.

you know ja Chip

It was Chip’s downtown apartment that many of us fighting the fight in Chicago would gather to be entertained by Chip, planning a “flotilla” up to Madison to catch up with the protesters, or arguing over where to go to dinner. We nearly always decided on the Chicago standby Greek Islands, Chip picking up the check no matter how big or small the group.

And it was through his magnetic personality that many of us who can sometimes lean overly ideological (myself foremost) were brought together, scolded for our zealousness, and generally reminded that sometimes you have to laugh through this war we’re in. Chip, charming and amiable where some of us are sharp-elbowed, was a warrior. And his role was vital to bringing cohesiveness to the grassroots army.

He leaves behind a wife and young daughter whom I had the pleasure of getting to know. I hope you will keep them in your thoughts and prayers as you reflect on the many types of warriors who are fighting today.

In honor of his alma mater that he loved so much, Roll Tide Roll.

Glenn Beck Breaks Down Dick Durbin’s Defense of Rallying with Communists

0
May 3, 2013

On Friday, Glenn Beck broke down the latest RebelPundit video for Breitbart News, where Illinois Senator Dick Durbin was a featured speaker at the Chicago May Day March.

Durbin joined nearly two thousand trade unionists, open communists, socialists, anarchists and illegal aliens at Chicago’s May Day march and rally.

Following his speech, I spoke to the senator about his participation. Here is Glenn Beck’s reaction:

Senator Durbin Defends Rallying with Communists and Anarchists at May Day Chicago

3
May 2, 2013

On Wednesday, Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) joined nearly two thousand trade unionists, open communists, socialists, anarchists and illegal aliens at Chicago’s May Day march and rally.

Two large rally demonstrations that began at Union Park and Chicago’s Haymarket Riot monument converged into a giant march that shut down traffic for miles, and ended at Federal Plaza where they were joined by Senator Durbin.

Durbin made remarks to the red, yellow and black flag waving crowd about “immigration reform.” Opening with “My fellow immigrants,” Durbin told the crowd “this is a once in a lifetime chance” to get “immigration reform.”

Following his speech, I spoke to the senator about his participation:

Durbin laughed at the suggestion that May Day is seen largely around the world as an international communist holiday, and said, “You are trapped in ancient history, my friend. May Day is also Law Day in America.”

(May Day is apparently also Law Day in America, but after covering the last three May Day marches in Chicago, I have never heard about Law Day, at any of the marches or elsewhere.)

Durbin then mounted a rather bizarre defense of his participation in the rally–on free speech grounds:

Rebelpundit: There is a large contingent of Communist Party USA, anarchists, international socialist groups here today that you just spoke to…

Durbin: How do you know that?

Rebelpundit: Because I’ve filmed them all day, and you just spoke to them, so I’d like to ask about your participation, why you decided to come out today?

Durbin: Well let me just say something, because [pause] I believe in the Constitution. Do you believe in it?

Rebelpundit: Because you believe in the Constitution you decided to come out to a rally full of communists and socialists?

Durbin: And you know why?

Rebelpundit: Why?

Durbin: Because we have freedom of speech in America, and that’s why you can record this and not be arrested.

RebelPundit: You think I should be arrested?

Durbin: No, not at all, you have a right to your constitutional rights, and I do, too.

Of course, Durbin could go to a Nazi or KKK rally, too–but does that mean, as a United States Senator, he should?

Media Echoes Harvard “Revolutionary” Socialists’ Post-Bombing Talking Points

0
April 26, 2013

The Harvard “Revolutionary” Socialists gathered last week, just three days after the Boston Marathon bombings, for a forum entitled “Don’t Let Them Turn Tragedy into Racism” on the Harvard University campus.

The two speakers, including “one of Britain’s leading young radical intellectuals,” put forth talking points that not only express the “Revolutionary” socialists’ opinion of the Boston terrorism, but also appear to almost exactly echo those put forth by the mainstream media in the U.S.

From the New Yorker to the Chicago Tribune, MSNBC, and even Tom Brokaw, the media marched in lockstep with the finger-pointing talking points presented in close proximity to the site of the terror at Harvard’s Socialist forum—finger-pointing at anyone and anything but Islamic Jihadis.

Many Americans have expressed disgust at the extreme pains some of the more elite members of the media went to avoid “prematurely judging” or presuming that whoever was responsible for the attack might be Islamic Jihadis. This, coupled with failing to extend such courtesy to those Americans among us opposed to high taxes and big government, was particularly revealing of the focus of the mainstream media.

Chris Matthews of MSNBC was quick off the mark to point out the attacks occurred on “Patriot Day” in Boston, according to his logic, increasing the likelihood that the responsible party would have been driven by similar reasons for of the Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh. Matthews was one of many to hint at the same judgment, in so doing incorrectly reporting that the Oklahoma attack occurred on the same holiday.

The Harvard Socialists’ forum speakers mimicked this narrative, beginning their discussion by declaring how “unsurprising” it was that the suspects “were white.” Their smugness over this fact was at best incomplete; their comments came about one hour after the photos of the Tsarnaev brothers were released, but prior to the public learning that they were in fact, Islamic Jihadis.

Compare the dramatic accusation in the New Yorker’s “The Saudi Marathon Man,” that the suspicion of initial person of interest Abdul Rahman Alharbi, a Saudi national, was racially motivated with the remarkably similar points made by Sofia Arias of the International Socialists at the Harvard forum. From the New Yorker:

…according to a CBS News report, a bystander saw the young man running, badly hurt, rushed to him, and then “tackled him,” bringing him down. People thought he looked suspicious. Read More »

Missouri Poised to Create Liquor Distributorship Monopoly for Large Campaign Donor

0
April 26, 2013

A top liquor distributor (Major Brands) is attempting to obtain near monopoly status for its Missouri operations courtesy of its allies in the state legislature. Such a status not only erodes economic freedom; the resulting loss of efficiency resulting from the change will result in higher liquor prices for the millions of Missouri residents who consume adult beverages. Because this attempt at ultimate crony capitalism involves simple changes in legal jargon found in state law, the vast majority of citizens are unaware of the attempt by a private enterprise to manipulate the law.

In the state of Missouri, liquor suppliers, wholesale distributors, and retailers must all operate independently of each other. In order for a franchise relationship to exist, several requirements must be met, including the existence of (1) a “community of interest” between supplier and distributor and (2) a trademark license between a liquor supplier and liquor distributor, a franchise relationship is deemed to exist. This relationship can only be severed for “good cause.” Without this “good cause” requirement, suppliers could easily enter arrangements with other distributors and simply terminate relationships others.” Thus, this requirement on terminations provides much protection to distributors.

As one of the few liquor distributors in Missouri, Major Brands claims to be in a franchise relationship with several liquor suppliers. Recently, these suppliers chose to utilize the services of another distributor. Major Brands filed a lawsuits against three of the liquor suppliers and the new distributor. Major Brands argues that the new distributor is wrongfully interfering with its franchise relationship.

If the Court determines that under existing state law a franchise relationship does not exist between Major Brands and the liquor suppliers, the company would lose distribution rights[ competitors would be free to operate.

To avoid any such ruling by the Court, the company desires the Missouri legislature to drastically alter the definition of “franchise relationship” as it applies to liquor distribution.

Rather than requiring a “community of interest” and a “trademark license”, House Bill 759 considers a “franchise” relationship for liquor sales to be in effect “with or without the grant of a license to use a trade name, trademark, service mark, or related characteristic, and whether or not there is a community of interest in the marketing of goods or services.” This change in definition would forcibly create franchise relationships between parties—analogous to a forced marriage.

New MTV series about kids of sperm donor “redefining family”

1
April 26, 2013

Last year at liberal conference Netroots, Darcy Burner, the woman who introduced Elizabeth Warren, reminded the audience of the cultural power the left has at its fingertips. She said to the audience (start at 16:50):

That is cultural change. Because television has given us — now everyone has a gay best friend whether they actually do or not. We’ve changed the stories in people’s heads, and that has changed what is possible.

Burner’s quote came to mind this morning when i read the headline about MTV’s latest television series, “Generation Cryo,” which depicts the lives of a series of children fathered by the same sperm donor as they try to locate him. A post about the series on MTV’s website says:

“Cryo” is a look at the issues faced by a new generation of kids coming of age who were conceived via anonymous sperm donors and are redefining what it means to be a family.

Rather than cater to the younger demographics the network purports to serve, MTV does them the ultimate disservice by redefining and undermining those institutions that will serve them best. Meanwhile, Darcy Burner’s stated goal, to harness cultural power, marches on.

Cryo is one of three new series the network is planning.

The Scary Part

1
April 20, 2013

The Scary part of the Boston bomber ordeal.

Not intending to be cavalier to the tragedy of the four people who lost their lives, scores who lost limbs and many others injured, the human carnage of the Boston marathon bombing is not what scares me. Perhaps the injuries are in excess of a normal weekend in Chicago but not the murders. If four people would have lost their lives on a Boston freeway, no one in Lincoln, Nebraska would have noticed.

That the devastation would have been perpetrated by followers of Islam is not a shock, despite the irony of the popular motto “COEXIST” plastered on the murder’s car. Even a timid analysis of world happenings in this century would have rendered such speculation prudent, regardless of what the media and establishment hoped. What we come to expect often loses its propensity to scare us.

What is scary are the images of heavily armed forces from numerous overlapping acronym-named government agencies parading through neighborhoods. Without search warrants troopers by the dozen invaded homes with guns drawn while the owners hunkered down. People stay home, lock their doors, businesses close without a peep in compliance to government request. Politicians use the opportunity to support the illusion that only the state can protect them.

Although an argument might be made that given the proximity to institutions that have long advocated less self-reliance and more collective consciousness residents of the area might be more inclined to follow, it is still scary. The culprits were not an invading army, nor a highly trained insurgency group, but a minor and a 26-year-old. To apprehend them it took an army. Where is Matt Dillon or Wyatt Earp?

Two actions to take in the wake of #Boston

I understand but don’t share the exuberance some residents of Boston and the country felt celebrating the capture of the second terrorist Dzhokhar Tsarnaev last night. I wasn’t cooped up all day, fearing for my life, having witnessed the battlefield brought to my own city.

But the battlefield was brought to my country, within my borders. It is unacceptable and I want to do something about it.

First, we can use the situation to view how our media and our culture-enforcers have exposed themselves through their coverage and reactions.

The Professor has pointed out the culture divide over guns that was revealed more fully over the past few days. Count me as among those for whom the thought crossed my mind, “it sure would be nice to have a gun if I was in one of those homes.”

My friend Lee Stranahan took Obama and CAIR’s statements that paraphrased from the Qur’an, and compared them with the text. Stranahan writes:

Thursday night, the Harvard Revolutionary Socialists, an affiliate of the International Socialists Organization held a meeting to discuss this week’s Boston Massacre. The lecture was titled, “ Don’t Let Them Turn Tragedy Into Racism: Resisting U.S. Empire in the Age of Obama.”

Wondering where the left gets its talking points. Have a listen.

The International Socialist Organization claimed to play a major roll in coordinating the Chicago Teacher’s Strike in 2012.
